Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Commercial Production Underwriter to manage and grow a portfolio of commercial accounts. In this role, you will collaborate closely with brokers and internal teams to develop strategies for growth, retention, and profitability across Alberta. Additionally, this position offers exciting opportunities for mentorship and participation in cross-functional projects, enhancing leadership skills, technical knowledge, and product expertise.

The key responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of commercial accounts, ensuring thorough risk assessment, accurate pricing, and appropriate coverage for property and casualty lines.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with brokers, agents, and stakeholders to identify new business opportunities and expand existing accounts while aligning with underwriting guidelines and market trends.
  • Analyze the profitability of your portfolio and make informed recommendations on renewals, adjustments, and growth opportunities.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate underwriters, fostering their professional growth and technical expertise.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and company product offerings and engage in ongoing training programs to refine your skills in underwriting and risk management.
  • Partner with claims, actuarial, and technical underwriting teams to design underwriting solutions that balance risk exposure with profitability.

Qualifications:

  • 5–7 years of experience in commercial underwriting, with a focus on production underwriting in the Property and Casualty (P&C) sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field.
  • Progress toward or completion of professional designations such as CIP is highly preferred.
  • Strong expertise in P&C products, underwriting guidelines, and risk analysis.
  • Proven ability to assess complex risks and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of building and maintaining broker relationships.
  • High business acumen with a clear understanding of profitability drivers.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with underwriting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
  • Ability to travel as needed to meet with brokers and attend industry events.
